Images of the body conveys a message. The message it conveys differs depending on the time it was created in, its purpose, form and medium.
While some of the images of the body
in this archive are simple diagrams
and measurement systems to inform
the viewer, some are the images of the
revolution that were used for throwing
off governments.
There are two main classification systems
in this archive:
— The first classification system divides
the images into three main categories
as Literal, Semi—Literal and Metaphorical.
Some images are clear and
directly communicates the idea with a
literal manner while some have a bigger
picture behind it.
— Second classification groups the
images in sub—categories according to
their purpose of creation and the type
of message it is trying to convey.
At the same time, the images are
ordered chronologically in their own
sections to show how the idea of the
images convey change over time. For
instance, the image of the hand evolves
from a simple way to say “I was here”,
to a measurement system that we still
use today, to becoming the symbol of
the leftist movement.
